Love Beyond Degree!

I heard this playing this morning and it blessed me so much, so I'm posting it here. Oh, how I love the hymns! How rich they are with the gospel! How beautifully they express the truths of the Word of God! The tune which I like is here.

Alas! and did my Saviour bleed,
And did my Sovereign die!
Would he devote that sacred head
For such a worm as I!

Was it for crimes that I had done
He groaned upon the tree!
Amazing pity! grace unknown!
And love beyond degree!

Well might the sun in darkness hide,
And shut his glories in,
When Christ, the mighty Maker, died
For man the creature's sin.

Thus might I hide my blushing face
While his dear cross appears;
Dissolve my heart in thankfulness,
And melt mine eyes in tears.

But drops of grief can ne'er repay
The debt of love I owe;
Here, Lord, I give myself away,
'Tis all that I can do.

~Isaac Watts, 1707

Beautiful words...

I love hymns too. My early years as a Christian were spent at a church that never sang hymns (except for Amazing Grace). I'm so thankful to know many more now because they are so full of the deep truths of the Gospel.

Hi Maxine,
I love the hymns as well. Being in the music ministry with my husband we do the comtemporary, and different other types of Christian music , but we love going back to the hymns because the words are so rich and so powerful. They don't write music quite like them anymore. I think he words of the hymns were so focused on the Lord. I will never stop singing them they bless my soul !!
